2018 Summer Assignments

2018 enrichment and jump start summer assignments listed by class

For the 2018 summer South Lakes has refined our summer assignments and in some areas done away with them. This summer there are two types of summer assignments: enrichment and jump start. The two types of assignments are defined as:

  • Enrichment: Assignments that are intended to improve the quality of students' understanding of the material for the upcoming school year by increasing their depth of knowledge of the content area. These assignments should enhance student appreciation for the course material. These assignments will not be assessed.
    • Examples include:
      • Review relevant content from prerquesites for the course (e.g. gap in courses; math skills).
      • Sustain skill levels outside of class (e.g. speaking foreign language)
  • Jump Start:  Assignments that will prepare students for the content for the upcoming course. Material for those assignments will be reviewed during the first two weeks of school and may be assessed only after they are reviewed. Students who choose to get a jump start will benefit by reducing their workload over the first couple weeks of the school year.
    • Examples include:
      • Build on students' readiness for higher level studies (e.g. research on early topics of the course).
      • Reading ahead of an assignment or lengthy piece of literature
