SOAR Advisory and Seahawk Seminar
SOAR Advisory
South Lakes High School has an embedded Advisory period where students and teachers work together to build positive relationships, focus on achievement and success and complete county mandated SEL lessons.
What is Advisory?
The objective of Advisory is for students and teachers to gain a sense of community and build positive relationships. Students will stay with their Teacher Advisory teacher and classmates throughout their academic career at SLHS.
When is Advisory?
Advisory takes place during 4th period then students move to Seahawk Seminar.
What are the expectations for Advisory?
- Attendance is taken each day -- students are expected to report to class unless directed otherwise for special programming. The same attendance expectations exist for Advisory as they do for all academic classes.
- Students are expected to remain in advisory for the duration of the class time. There is no movement around the building during this time.
What will I do in Advisory?
- SEL: Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) is the process through which all young people and adults acquire and apply the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to develop healthy identities, manage emotions and achieve personal and collective goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain supportive relationships, and make responsible and caring decisions
- SEL skills include self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision-making. These skills are important for collaboration and perspective taking. They also help students manage their feelings, address challenges, and reach their goals.
- Advisory will be utilized for many school-wide or grade level specific programs (such as class meetings, surveys, SR&R, Impact Aid, etc.)
