End of Year SMARTR Outcome (Closing the Gap)

We will reduce full-day unexcused absences by 3% to increase academic success.

Strategy 1

  • Staff will work to ensure accurate attendance is taken, as required by law, through the use of reminders and teachers not taking attendance reports.

Strategy 2

  • Staff will increase communication to parents about the importance of attendance, the impact on student achievement and meeting SOA requirements. 

Strategy 3

  • We will utilize a variety of strategies to address the importance of attendance to include: home visits and Check and Connect as Tier 2 interventions for students with chronic attendance issues.

End of Year SMARTR Outcome (Closing the Gap)

  • All Staff will work to decrease achievement gaps by increasing pass rates for ELL and special education sub-groups by 5% in Mathematics and 3% in other academic areas.

Strategy 1

  • Mathematics teachers will implement the use of Mathspace as a tool  in Tier 1 instruction  in Algebra 1 through Pre-Calculus. 

Strategy 2

  • Use our intervention and support classes to include Strategies for Success, Algebra 2 strategies, and Algebra 1 double block, to prioritize intervention in targeted areas.

Strategy 3

  • Literacy strategies will continue to be implemented school-wide in an effort to close achievement gaps.

End of Year SMARTR Outcome (Raise the Bar)

  • South Lakes will continue to innovate instruction and assessment through the use of a variety of strategies. By the end of the 2018-2019 school year 75% of all CTs will have utilized an alternative method of instruction and/or assessment.

Strategy 1

  • PBL trained teachers will continue to collaborate within the building and with other Region 1 schools to implement PBL units. PBL training and supports will be provided through the South Lakes PBL leads and online through the PBL resources (i.e.  PBL in Action).

Strategy 2

  • Collaborative teams will evaluate, reflect and refine the implementation of alternative assessments for increased development and to build capacity of assessments.

Strategy 3

  • Develop teachers to provide stronger more innovative instruction. 

End of Year SMARTR Outcome (Individual Growth)

  • South Lakes will introduce  Emotional Intelligence (EI) lessons for all students to provide Tier 1 instruction of social/emotional learning. In this first year of implementation, there will be ten school-wide lessons.
