English Language Arts
Outcome: Ensure students are making sufficient progress to be on grade level in English Language Arts.
Goal: By the end of 22-23 school year 90% of our 191 students who earned a D+, D, or F in their 2021-2022 English Course will meet grade level expectations on common writing and reading Performance Based Assessments.
Strategy 1
Foster vocabulary development.
Strategy 2
Integrate frequent use of writing.
Strategy 3
Increase student engagement through discussion, student choice and collaboration.
Strategy 4
Support staff in community outreach to EL students.
Mathematics
Outcome: Ensure students are making sufficient progress to be on grade level in Mathematics.
Goal: By the end of the 22-23 school year, Math SOL scores will improve by 10% and improve within each subgroup.
Strategy 1
Engage in professional learning around Shift 8 (Shift references an FCPS strategy from looking at correct answers toward looking for students’ thinking pedagogy).
Strategy 2
Use collaborative team cycle to implement Planning Practices.
Strategy 3
Increase student engagement through discussion.
Strategy 4
Demonstrate, share, and implement the instructional moves, and student actions that exemplify a student-centered lesson.
Wellness
Outcome: Ensure students feel safe, included, and supported in the school environment.
Goal: In the 22-23 school year, students' favorable responses to sense of belonging and/or relationship questions will increase by 10% from the Fall 2021 SEL Screener, Youth Survey, and/or the VA Climate Survey.
Strategy 1
Provide SEL instruction via Advisory lessons and opportunities for practicing core competencies at various times throughout the day to increase accessibility.
Strategy 2
Provide targeted or intensive interventions for students to support needs at Tier 2/3.
Strategy 3
Develop adults’ foundational knowledge regarding the rationale for required practices and tools to support their implementation.
Strategy 4
Develop a supportive and culturally responsive classroom environment and school culture to improve students' sense of belonging through increased engagement.
Portrait of a Graduate (POG)
Outcome: All students will complete a POG Presentation of Learning (POL) by 2025-26.
Goal: 90% of staff will show growth in their understanding of IB-aligned POG attributes as measured by the school-wide POG inventory from fall 2022 to spring 2023.
Strategy 1
The school will build an understanding with staff about why and how POG attributes and skills positively impact students within and beyond school while connecting the attributes to the IB Learner Profile traits.
Strategy 2
Pilot groups of teachers will design and facilitate inquiry-based opportunities that elevate student voice and increase student engagement.
