Congratulations to Dr. Matthew Ravenstahl on his recognition as the June 2024 FCPS CARES Region 1 Recipient of the Month, presented by the FCPS Department of Human Resources.

The FCPS CARES Program is an opportunity for parents, staff, and community members to recognize FCPS employees for going above and beyond to help others and show they care. We invite you to submit your story below, so we can all acknowledge the good work of FCPS employees.

Below is the write-up submitted by a South Lakes High School parent.

"Dr. Matthew Ravenstahl, Matt, is an Art Teacher at South Lakes High School who takes the meaning and teaching of art to a new level. Matt has a special touch on how he teaches and interacts with his students and other teachers. Matt's ability to share his love of art has extended beyond the typical and touched the hearts of our special needs children. Before starting in Matt's art class, our 17-year-old boy, who is non-verbal due to Down syndrome, our son, had sensory problems and did not like the feel of sticky or gooey materials. Our ambitions for our son were for him to get a vocational job where he might do menial tasks for his life's work. Now, he does not mind working with different textured materials, and he is producing artwork displayed at local community centers. We don't know for sure, but our son might be able, one day, to sell his art. Our son's future has more options because of Dr. Ravenstahl. Thank you, Dr. Ravenstahl, for your talent and kindness and for giving us hope for a brighter future for our special guy."
