PSAT/NMSQT & SAT School Day - Wednesday, October 9
PSAT/SAT School Day is on Wednesday October 9. Students participating should arrive at school as normal. Morning school buses will be running normally that day. There will be a 2-hour early release (buses will leave at 12:55).
Note: If a student was approved by college board for the extended time accommodation, there will be a bus at 3 PM for these students.
The PSAT will be administered in a digital format. The PSAT/NMSQT measures student readiness for college and provides practice for the SAT college entrance exam. This assessment also provides an opportunity for students in eleventh grade to qualify for National Merit Scholarships and offers students feedback in preparation for future standardized testing experiences.
The SAT is only offered to seniors only. Due to SAT contract constraints, SAT School Day assessments are available only to students who express an intent to participate. On Monday, August 12, an email will be sent to all 12th grade students with a link to a google form to express their intent to participate. This google form must be completed by the student through their fcpsschools.net account. To guarantee participation in SAT School Day exams, students must submit their online intent form by Wednesday, September 4. Any student who does not sign up ahead of time, should NOT attend school on Wednesday October 9. Students present for the SAT will be marked TST in SIS. Any senior not attending school on October 9 will be marked USD (unscheduled school day) in SIS. Twelfth grade students who will not be testing are encouraged to use this day to participate in civic engagement activities or other prearranged activities.
Seniors not participating in SAT School Day are encouraged to:
- Log in to Naviance to research college and career opportunities
- Visit a local college virtually or in person
- Participate in service learning or civic engagement activities
- Complete a practice SAT to prepare for future testing opportunities
- Create or update a resume and write a cover letter
All Juniors and Sophomores are automatically signed up for the PSAT/NMSQT. They will be marked as TST in SIS if they are present for testing. If they are not in school on October 9, they will be marked with regular absence coding. Students will receive their testing information to their fcpsschools.net email address. The PSAT is digital. Students will complete a digital readiness check in their advisory period on September 16. If they are absent for this advisory period, they will be pulled to complete this readiness check prior to October 9.
Freshman WILL NOT be in the building on this day. They will be marked USD (unscheduled school day) in SIS. On this day ninth grade students are encouraged to complete any missing work or assignments that need to be completed prior to the end of the first quarter.
CAT B students not participating in the PSAT have a regular instructional day. The teacher will mark them present or absent as normal.
