Dear English 11 Honors Student:
Over the summer, all prospective English 11 Honors are asked to procure a copy of Thomas C. Foster’s guide, How to Read Literature Like a Professor: A Lively and Entertaining Guide to Reading Between the Lines. If you are unable to purchase a copy, you may borrow one from the public library, or borrow one from the school library.
After reading the assigned chapters, students are asked to complete a brief response to the same four questions for each chapter.
Reading and responding to this text should take approximately 4-6 hours. (48 total pages of reading and response time)
The questions will be used for a class discussion during the third week of school.

How to Read Literature Like a Professor
- What ideas were new to you?
- What ideas seemed obvious?
- What ideas seemed far-fetched?
- Discuss connections made between the chapter and other literature.
